Surf Spots Around Montezuma

Playa Grande – The best beginner/intermediate surf spot. From Anamaya it’s a 5 min drive (20 min walk) to town, then a 25 min walk on beach and jungle paths to Playa Grande itself. Many people carry their boards all the way from town to the surf spot, but for most, a longboard would be too heavy to carry this distance (a shorter board can be managed). Playa Grande is a very consistent beach break, never crowded, great for beginners, and Anamaya’s surf lessons are primarily held here. The boards used by our surf school are stored in a cabina in the jungle in front of this epic spot. There is no other access to Playa Grande other than walking from Montezuma.

Montezuma – just outside of Montezuma, to the north in front of Hotel Ylang Ylang, is a left that has a bunch of rocks and is surfed by locals who know it well.

Los Cedros – an intermediate surf break. 7 min drive from Anamaya. Cedros Surf Report, Tide Chart and Forecast

Santa Teresa / Malpais Surfing – many great breaks of all kinds. 25-35 min drive from Anamaya, depending on which surf spot. Santa Teresa Report, Tide Chart and Forcast

Surf Lessons

We have instructors available for surf lessons. It’s $40 for 2 hours and that includes the surfboard rental. The schedule will be based on the tides and can be booked the day before the lesson.
