Guest Yoga Teacher Bridget Fujioka
Bridget Fujioka (E-RYT 200, YACEP) was first introduced to yoga in 2001 after several tragedies in her life. Through yoga she found a calm aspect of life never before experienced. After that first year she knew becoming a yoga teacher would be life changing. To have a place where others could also use as a sanctuary would bring joy to her life. It took some time and several detours, but everything has fallen into place. She received her 200-hour teacher training from Bright Spirit Teacher Training in Hoboken, NJ in 2011 with Liza Bertini, Jillian Pransky, Carrie Parker-Gastelu, and Tam Terry. Shortly after graduating, she became an owner of the first yoga studio in Jersey City Heights, Beloved World Yoga(formerly Yoga in the Heights). She has extensively studied Restorative Yoga at Yoga Works with Jillian Pransky, Yin Yoga with Lola Rephann, and Yoga for Backcare with Allison West. When not running the studio and teaching, she spends her leisure time with her family playing with her two boys and exploring the world. She is so grateful for the opportunity to share yoga with her community and now the rest of the world at Anamaya Resort.
Teaching Philosophy
Bridget encourages students to cultivate awareness in their yoga practice and daily lives. She believes that although the practice of yoga may not be easy, it is very simple in its overall concept. As illustrated by Yoga Sutra 1.1 “atha yoga anushasanam”, which translates as “now, the inquiry of yoga begins,” Bridget guides her students to practice mindfulness, to inquire and reflect on their experiences and to do so in a way that is kind and gentle. Bridget’s goal in teaching a yoga class is not a fancy pose, although she can help you get there, but rather that her students find a kindness and love of themselves. She believes thru this inquiry of the inner world, it will positively reflect and improve upon relationships and interaction in the outer world. Bridget teaches breath and alignment based Vinyasa, and has a special knack for teaching beginners. She also specialized in stress reduction techniques through Restorative Yoga and Yoga Nidra. She infuses her yoga classes with other movement modalities she has studied over the years that have furthered her practice, such as the Feldenkrais Method, Egoscue Method, and functional movement. She wishes that all of her students leave class feeling restored and empowered in their daily lives.
Workshops
Yoga For Back Care
Back pain is one of the primary reasons why so many people do yoga!” If you are one of these people, then learning basic yoga techniques to care for your back can be an essential part of your practice. In this introductory yoga for back care workshop, we will explore how breathing, movement and mindfulness practices can help release tension, alleviate pain and support your back.
This workshop is appropriate for people with some basic yoga experience, in generally good condition, who are experiencing or want to prevent back pain, and who can get up and down off the floor with little assistance. This is also an ideal workshop for teachers wanting more insight on yoga for back pain. This workshop is 2 hours and the price is $55.
Meditation
Many of us only get a chance to experience mediation as it is weaved into an asana class. Take a moment to be still and re-center through the use of;
Asana, the physical exercises of yoga, is only 1/8th of the practice of yoga. Come to this all-levels class to incorporate pranayama and meditation practices into your experience of yoga. Pranayama is a system of energy management. Meditation is a practice for developing concentration and focusing the mind. In this one-hour workshop, you will learn about what mediation is, some of its variations and how it can positively impact your physical, mental, and emotional health. You will be guided through 2 meditations which will include breathing techniques, mantra, mudra, and intention setting. No experience necessary. Start exactly where you are. This workshop is 1 hour and the price is $25.
