Guest Yoga Teacher Cortney Singleton
Cortney Singleton is originally from Fair Hill, MD. She has an integrative approach to wellness, fitness, and holistic healing. In 1996, she moved to Orlando to complete her undergraduate degree in Communications at the University of Central Florida. After one year of working in a corporate setting, she realized she was destined for a “hands on” way to help people improve their lives.
Cortney had been working at the YMCA in the marketing and membership while teaching indoor cycling and personal training. After attending one yoga class, it was clear to her that there was an alternative route to emotional and physical wellness. She received her formal teacher certification with Integrative Yoga in 2001 and Power Pilates Level 1 in 2005. Since then, she has been teaching yoga under various influences including Shiva Rea, Baron Baptiste, Seane Corn and Dharma Mittra. Most recently she received her master’s degree in Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture at The Florida College of Integrative Medicine.
Every “body” she encounters receives a specialized treatment, often a combination yoga of all levels, acupuncture, Thai yoga and chinese massage, cupping, pranayama (breath work) and meditation. She has lead Yoga and Pilates trainings all over Costa Rica. She was commissioned by royal family in Saudi Arabia to lead individual sessions with the princesses and Pilates teacher trainings for the fitness staff at Yibreen in Riyahd. “My yoga practice is a dynamic moving meditation that will strengthen you from the core of your body and being to develop a strong body, a sound mind and a loving spirit. Yoga brings brings mindfulness to movement and with diligence can create a peaceful existence on and off the mat.”
Cortney’s life experiences have lead her to teaching at Orlando Power Yoga and The Salt Room to leading retreats in Costa Rica, Panama, California with Greece and Bali on the horizon. “Chinese medicine is a practice of treating the root of “dis”ease. Yoga is a discipline of integrating mind, body and soul. Live well, breathe deep and love deeper. Every day is a gift from God. I can only hope to positively influence and inspire each soul I meet along life long journey of natural healing.” Cortney has created a lifestyle to support this mission statement. When she is not in the studio teaching or practicing yoga or the treatment room, you can bet she is riding her horse or working on her family’s horse rescue farm or surfing somewhere along the Florida coastline.
Partner-Acro Yoga Workshop
Are you prepared to explore the boundaries of space, flight and inversion? This 2 hour workshop combines two concepts: Partner Yoga and Acro Yoga. The first portion of the workshop is a flow of classic yoga postures done with a partner. You will learn to move and stretch your body in ways that are unattainable in a solo practice. Learn to trust, balance and move creatively in space with the energy of a fellow yogi. The second portion of this workshop is Acro Yoga where we will combine the spiritual grace of yoga, acrobatics and the mindfulness of breath and meditation. You will be practicing in groups of 3 with a spotter so you will have support and safety through each uniquely designed partner asana. Anyone can be a partner! You may bring someone or will be partnered with someone and in groups at the event. Some yoga experience is recommended to participate. If you plan to attend solo – no problem! Please indicate upon registration. Price is $25
